According to officials with ODOT the US 97 Lava Butte Project will reach completion sometime during the Summer of 2011.
ODOT seems to have a proactive approach to accomidating motorists while the project is being completed. Recently a closure was announced of Cottonwood Interchange in a attempt to finish work on that portion of the road construction before the icey winter season. Jay Davenport of ODOT says, “A temporary closure will really help move the project along to get Cottonwood Road and the ramps ready for winter.” As a motorist whom travels that stretch of highway 97 up to 6 or 7 times a week I can say I certainly appreciate the amount of forethought the Oregon Department of Transportation is putting into the highway project. Is it a temporary inconvenience? You betcha… However, considering that ever since I was a youngster traveling highway 97 for family vacations a improvement has been needed, who am I to complain about two years worth of work. At completion the stretch of 97 giving access to Sunriver will be a safer path for residents and visitors a like, a welcome thought!
